How long has your 1999 Mazda B2500 had this problem?

Hello, engine's need good spark, good fuel delivery and the proper air coming in the engine (which on a cold engine could be choked off...) to start. If you have air getting in a cold engine because of a leak somewhere or an ineffective part, all the fuel and spark you can generate will not be able to overcome that air initially, creating an extended crank time. But that's a total guess. Fuel pump bleed down can cause excessive cranking. A fuel pressure test and bleed down test should be performed, as well as an inspection of all engine performance components including the work that was just performed.
