Was any brake work performed on the car?

I had a similar problem. After suffering a 14 hour drive without it, my grandpa discovered the cable had simply slipped off the battery. It should be easy to see and if you can't figure out which one it is, check the manual. You may have to replace the clip, which is really easy. Hope this helps. Also, remove the battery before you attach the cable.
