Check the battery first, are the connections clean and tight? How much volatage does the battery have while resting?

it was pouring down i drove home with no wipers no heating no radio and no eletric windows when i turned the ignition off and then back on again when i got home everthing work again but the car engine would,nt turn over not even a click absolutely baffled me. anybody any ideas thanks
