What is your question?
My 02 Passat just started having a problem with overheating. I noticed the warning indicator light on and pulled over to check coolant level, but it looked fine. After cooling down, started down the road and noticed the temp gauge climbing again. I shifted down and when the rpms went up, the temp gauge dropped. My guess is: thermostat, leaky line/air in line, or maybe a bad sensor along the way. Any help is very appreciated.
How long has your 2002 Volkswagen Passat had this problem?

Increasing engine speed causing the temperature to drop while sitting still indicates the water pump should be ok. Increasing vehicle speed causing temperature to drop indicates the radiator is ok. Increase in engine heat despite these indicates a thermostat or leak. If you are not missing any coolant, likely a thermostat issue. Test my marking the coolant reservoir with a line at cold, noting the outside temperature, and see if it drops after driving and letting it cool.
