The 2004 Explorer is not known for having an issue with the balancer, although anything is possible I suppose. Having a bad knocking sound as you have described seems like a lower end noise internal to the engine. I cannot draw conclusions from your story as to what may have happened, but I would suggest not running the engine further unless you can get it to a qualified technician to evaluate with you. You certainly do not want to cause any more damage than is already done, depending on what is faulty. Good luck.
IT'S A FORD....FIX OR REPAIR DAILY...GET IT ??? IF IT IS THE HARMONIC BALANCER THE FAN BLADE WILL BE CLOSE TO THE RADIATOR.. AND WILL WOBBLE WHEN YOU LOOK DOWN AT IT...TAKE IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AS THIS IS DANGEROUS...STAY AWAY FROM FORD DEALERSHIPS...THEY LIE, TELL YOU THIS IS THE PRICE...(HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS)...THEY ASSUME YOU HAVE THE INTELLIGENCE OF A TADPOLE...MAKE FRIENDS WITH A LOCAL MECHANIC IN YOUR AREA AND HAVE HIM TAKE A LOOK...FORD DIDN'T NEED A BAILOUT BECAUSE THEY OVER CHARGED US SO MUCH THEY DIDN'T NEED ONE...GOODLUCK !!!
well we touched the balancer and it is lose and it make the knoking sound like that I was just wondering....
As I mentioned, anything is possible. Have someone give you an opinion locally.
