I have seen quite few of these failed, some even with an excellent service record. The biggest problem with these that sludge builds up and clogs orifices of the oil, causing lack of lubrication to some key components. It's important to use good synthetic oil with good oil filter (I'd suggest Mann or OE VW) and change it every 3000 miles. I'd suggest to find a good VW specialty shop just in case. You will need a shop anyway because at 105,000 the timing components needs to be replaced. Around this time there might be necessary to replace some suspension and steering parts too, so ask for a good general check-over. Zee
Thanks for taking your time ,i just always heard that voltswagon made some good cars ,but you cant always believe what you hear.So these are not long lasting engines in most cases.I really need something dependable for my 17 year old,I might take this and get her another car, thanks randy.
If you want something reliable and low maintenance, I'd suggest a Toyota or Honda. A regular 4 cylinder car. Zee
