What is your question?
My wife ended up (accidentally) running over a pretty good size rock which did damage to the underside of the car. The rock did hit the front of the gas tank but there was only a small ding that was visible. We got the 'damaged, replaceable' parts replaced, but now we only get around 220-230 miles per fill-up. We used to get around 320-340 miles before. The fuel gauge is off (won't hardly move above E) and it's part of the pump assy. We haven't noticed any gas leakage, and it seems as though the gas mileage is still around 30 or 31 mpg (220-230 miles, 7-8 gallons fillup). According to one mechanic, the pump assembly needs replaced. I'm willing but don't know that I want to start nickel & dime-ing this car. We've already spent @1500 in the last few months on it. Where should we go / what should we do? Thank you.

Did you replace the gas tank and the fuel pump assembly with a new one. A used tank on its own is ok, but did you put a new fuel pump assembly in. Consider yourself lucky that you have only spent $1500.
Greetings... I should have specified: the money we have spent was on other things in the front end (both due to the accident and other maintenance), not this problem. That's why I want some advice... can't afford another $1500 :( Thanks :)
Normally I wold say get an estimate off this website. In this case RepairPal is way off in the estimate. Buy the fuel pump assembly from Napa auto parts or the dealer. The fuel pump module costs arond $550. The labor shoudn't be more than 2 to 2.5 hours labor. Good luck. I'm sure you have discovered that any parts for this car are expensive. It used to be called a Diahatsu. Then GM bought the company.
Greetings... yeah, it's not cheap. I got a price between $300 - $330 for the assy (3 different parts houses), and I can get to it through the back seat. I can replace it, I just don't want to replace it and have it not be the problem. Yeah, our first 'almost brand new' car from GM and it's been a pain :( Thanks for the info... Happy New Year :)
I errored, it used to be a daewoo not a diahatsu. I really don't understand your hesitation in replacing the fuel pump module. Did you not say that the fuel gage was not reading right after you replaced it. You already know the fuel sending unit is a part of the module.
Greetings... We haven't replaced anything in the fuel system yet... this is why I'm trying to figure out what to replace. We don't want to go ahead and replace the pump assy and still not have the Fuel Gauge work. As soon as we can come up with the money, we've decided to replace the pump assy (and hope that fixes the problem)... however, it's going to be a little while before we can :(
