What is your question?
this car is advertised to get 40+ mpg, standard. we now have 7500 on ours and it has never gotten above 34.5 and on this tank its down to 29.1. we drive very carefully,we have to drive 35+miles to the freeway to shop every week, its a good straight 2 lane road and we use cruise. we drove it from the canadian border to palm springs on I-5, still not above 34.5. the only reason we purchased this car was the mileage advertisement. what can be done to fix this?? we are really unhappy customers and will trade this car off. janiceramsey@hotmail.com.

My recommendation is to contact your local Hyundai dealership to work closely with them to express your concerns and hopefully obtain a satisfactory resolution. My sense is that the vehicle is not going to suddenly perform better, and that there indeed will be absolutely nothing the dealership can do for you mechanically (although, i will say that I find the optimum fuel economy does not become reality until well after 10,000 miles...). There are a myriad of factors that figure in to attaining the highest level of fuel economy. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/why_differ.shtml Check that link to the U.S. Department of Energy web site. You can move on from there to read more articles about variations of what you experience verses their testing. Most interesting is the "fuel variations" exceptions, and the "vehicle variations" exception. Good luck!
