I had the oil changed on my 2003 convertible within the last week. The car was also serviced at a VW service center 3 days ago -- to replace a headlight bulb and take care of an air bag sensor recall -- and inspected in Washington, DC 2 days ago (it passed). Yesterday, the MIL lamp went on and will not go off. I checked the gas cap and it is on securely.

VW are sensitive to setting the Check Engine Light if the engine oil level is over full. It is necessary to plug in a scan tool to a 16 pin diagnostic socket under the dash of your car to see what the computer in your car saw as being a problem the moment it turned on the Check Engine Light on your instrument panel. Valuable information is stored in the computer in your car that will assist in the proper repair of your car.
