What is your question?
Truck needed a new computer so mechanic put in a used one and couldn't program it/re-key it(?). So it set in his yard while he tried to find someone to re-key it. During this time, mice ate any wiring they could. Mechanic never found someone to re-key truck and couldnt get truck started to make sure new (old) computer is working. Had it towed to a dealership. Was told it would cost more to re-wire it then its worth. It's now sitting in my front yard. Could I rewire it myself? I'm not a mechanic, have never worked on vehicles but just wondering... how much would re-wiring it cost? (If I could find anyone to do it!) Thanks for any advice or help

Hello, Re-wiring a vehicle is nothing like it used to be. Yes, there are many more components, and the wiring loom stretched out may reach mars, but the fact is there is no guesswork. Yes, you could do it yourself if you are very methodical about it, as long as you order the wiring harness from the dealer using the VIN number. It would be a matter of beginning at the firewall, and unplugging one connector from the old, plugging in the new, about 100 times. Really not a big deal. But that is not the end of the story. Personal experience: While I was deployed overseas, my beloved 530i sat in a garage, safe and sound in North County San Diego. At least, until a giant wildfire was sweeping through the area. My cars were put into a dirt patch with the sprinklers running all over them, which protected them from fire, but turned them into a wildlife refuge. Needless to say, the wiring looms were shredded, and the batteries were left connected. The 530i turned out fine, but I had an 04' mustang that was toast. The damage to the wire harness was bad, but the damage to electronic components was catastrophic. Beware.
