maintance light

The light comes on between 4500 and 5000 miles indicating an oil change is due. I prefer to change the engine oil in my Toyota every 3000 miles. It is reset using the trip meter button.

yes....it's a factory feautre recommending the owner that it's time to conduct maintenance particularly replacing oil and filter. Once it's been replaced, not neccessarily will the "maintenance req" light will reset, you have to reset it yourself. This is how to reset the "maintenance req" light specially on a newer model. Turn on the ignition (not starting the engine), on the dashboard display, keep pressing the trip pushbutton until the "trip odometer" show-up. Hold the push-button and turn-off for 10 secs. While still pressing the button, turn-on the ignition, surprise yourself....it's reset !

yes its programed for every 5000 miles
