van has bee to regular garage for servive, ie, oil changes, but the last 1,000 miles or so there is a noise or dull ticking noise in the front engine area, if i step in the gas to rev up engine it does not get faster. do i need to take into a honda dealer for service ? they are so expensive

You don't need to take it to a Honda Dealer, this can be looked at by an independent repair shop. If you can reproduce the noise, then ask to take a mechanic for a test drive and demonstrate the noise for them.
