Was just told that lower ball joints need repair. There is no noise, clunking, knocking, or uneven tire wear. In fact, tires are wearing excellent. Is this a con job?

For a shop to condemn ball joints, they would need to see movement in the joint when checking it, or find the dust boots torn. Ask to see the movement or torn boots to verify their recommendations.
