Knocking Noise while driving

(2002 Volkswagen EuroVan)
in El Granada, CA on April 14, 2011
Problem originally just happened when we drove up the hill we live on with a full car. A knocking noise would occur and then stop when you let up on the gas. Problem then started to happen at different times in different driving conditions. Most recently the noise would happen when I am on the freeway at speed and the knock would start slowly and then build up to almost constantly. I just had the water pump changed, thought it was that, but problem continues with new water pump.

It could be many things, unfortunately and without hearing the noise first hand or being able to do some basic diagnostic tests its hard to say. Is the noise engine related? engine mounts/suspension, it could be so many things. If it's engine related it would be very important to get this properly diagnosed and repaired as soon as possible before the problem becomes catastrophic.

your noise could be a couple of issues going on, 1) a possible exhaust leak, 2) internal engine noise (hope it's not).
If your in the area just pop in and I'll have my shopforman take a quick look at it and he can give you an idea of what's going on.

Hey there. I was wondering if the original poster ever found resolution to this issue? We are having the EXACT same issue with our 2003 Eurovan.

Thanks
