Hello, Check to see that the key is fully inserted into the ignition switch. If it is hanging out, give a couple of taps to the key to see if it pops in. If the key is fully inserted, shake the steering wheel with a little force in the same direction the steering wheel is turned while having someone shaking the shifter back and forth and try to turn the key at the same time. If all of these fail, the issue is likely that the ignition lock cylinder is not being released by the shift interlock system. Ah, and don't forget to check if your brake lights are working. The brakes have to be pressed as well, and the signal from the brake light switch is required to unlock the steering column. The ignition lock cylinder is a fairly common point of failure for GM vehicles, and the bad part is removing the lock cylinder is difficult if it will not turn freely.
There is a Recall on the Cylinder & keys! and the Recall don't expire... I had a 2005 Equinox, keys worn down where they look like a pencil! when I call to see if my car was ready he try to sell me something extra for the lock set, I told him to just do the warranty repair! Everything was good after I pick it up! plus two new extra keys
