'Counting' slowly to 10 would be just as effective! .. FULL professional scan test along with fuel system pressure test is highly recommended.
Hello, It sounds like you are having problems with your throttle body position sensor, idle air control valve, or clogged/sticky fuel injectors. When you press the gas pedal, you are actually pressing the air pedal, as the throttle body only lets air into the engine. When it does, the engine computer tells the injectors to squirt air into the engine. Also, the idle air control valve only works at idle, and lets enough air into the engine to run at idle (when the throttle body is closed), so hitting the gas while starting the engine may be allowing enough air into the engine to start. In either case, these can be diagnosed by a professional scanner, or hands-on testing, so using a professional is likely the best route.
