My daughter's old Hyundai Elantra alternator belt broke. As I opened up the hood, I found the broken belt, but also coolant everywhere. Any thoughts if those two things are related? (Like if belt breaking caused coolant to leak out everywhere for some reason ...or purely coincidental separate incidents? I replaced belt, and possibly over filled the radiator with more coolant. I drove it around during the block, but now coolant is everywhere inside engine and leaking coolant. Maybe it's a hose....? I'm hoping it's not a radiator leak... any thoughts?

Hello, I believe the same belt running the alternator also runs the water pump. It wasn't mentioned, but could be the engine overheated and what you see is the result of that. If nothing else, coolant will often overflow the reservoir during an overheat and spill where it may. It could also be the water pump is the source of not only the coolant leak, but the belt breaking as well. If the bearings in the water pump have decided they've rotated enough, they stop rotating. Best thing to do is have the belt and cooling systems inspected by a competent party.
