How would I fix a high idle problem.

I own a 1997 Toyota tercel and it had a high idle problem for the past two years, It was causing my engine to burn lots of oil so I replaced the idle air control valve (bought the part for about 57$ off of amazon) and the high idling stopped. Maybe that could help you with your situation?
