how to tell which spark plug coil is bad

Is the check engine light on and are any codes stored? An dhow do you know it's a coil and not something else?

I replaced three coil packs that didn't help the problem was that. the problem was oil getting around thhe spark plugs and causing a misfire. replacing the seals around the valve cover whitch is part of the valve cover gasket
