Vehicle Application: 1997 F-150 4.2 1997 F-150 4.6 Customer Concern: MIL on setting trouble code P1451. Average Reported Mileage: 113666 Tests/Procedures: 1. Check the Vehicle Power (VPWR) circuit (Red (R) wire) at the Canister Vent (CANV) solenoid for battery voltage with the ignition switch in the Run position. 2. If battery voltage is present on the R wire, check resistance of the solenoid. Resistance of the solenoid should indicate 45-65 ohms. 3. Check for battery voltage on the Purple/White (P/W) wire with the solenoid connected. 4. If battery voltage is present on the P/W wire of the solenoid, check the circuit at Powertrain Control Module (PCM) pin 67. 5. If there is no voltage on the P/W wire at the PCM, the P/W wire is open between the PCM and the solenoid. Tech Tips: C148 is a black 16-terminal connector located forward of the air cleaner assembly on the driver side fender apron. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) looks for battery voltage on the Purple/White (P/W) wire at pin 67 from the solenoid. If it doesn't see the voltage signal from the solenoid it sets this code. Voltage flows through the solenoid from the R wire to the P/W wire and back to PCM pin 67 so that the PCM can ground the circuit when its ready to activate the solenoid. The solenoid is located on the evap canister rear of body near the gas tank.
