After removing the cables and clamps there still isn't room to get the old battery out and the new in.

After you remove the cross member above the battery,it is still a tight fit, since I replaced mine 10 days ago, I realized that batteries, even though heavy, still have to be turned and twisted to fit most newer cars. I have a 06 Lacrosse. Stick with it, it will fit.

I did this and it still will not come out.
That is what GM wants. They want you to have to take it back to the dealership to get small problems like changing a battery done. We are having the same problem. Can't get the old battery out!
