What is your question?
I changed the bushing for my shift linkage. When the car is in neutral the line on the linkage matches. when I put my car in drive it’s actually in 2nd gear until I jiggle my shifter. Then it would go into drive but it would slowly slide back into 2nd gear. 2003 Grand Marquis. I tried fiddling with the plastic black gear under my steering wheel that adjusts the red bar. That obviously didn’t work. Meaning it’s definitly something with the shift linkage itself. That or the cable.
How long has your 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis had this problem?
A month.

Tighten the two bolts holding shifter cable bracket to shift tube.. Under drivers side dash of course.. I’m sure there are some YouTube videos on this issue as most ALL Ford column shift vehicles are plagued with this problem.
Just made a account. But they are tight. Any other things it could be. ?
Adjusting the fine tuning (black) wheel under dash is the only thing left to do.. Set park brake - shift to drive then make fine tuning adjustments to line up the pointer. Assuming the replacement linkage bushing is correctly installed with no free play and the shift tube itself on steering column is in good shape. Otherwise *hands-on* evaluation is required.
