Honda Civic 2004 hybrid (iMA). Battery won't charge

Mechanic is saying there is no alternator in this car .?is that correct

Hello again, He or she is correct in that there is no alternator, but they must understand that the 12v charging system is separate from the high voltage system. I typically say alternator because most people understand what it does, and it performs the same function as the DC/DC converter that hybrid drive vehicles use to charge the service battery. The DC/DC converter derives power from the hybrid inverter, and reduces it to somewhere between 12 and 15 volts DC to charge the service battery (low voltage). If the service battery light is on, either the sensor at the positive post has a bad fuse, the battery is bad, the DC/DC converter is not charging (maybe as a result of the iMA fault), or the system detected faults while the vehicle was disassembled and needs to be reset. If you are able to drive it and the battery charges and discharges as normal, the fuel mileage is the same, and you aren't getting driveability issues, I would start by removing the negative battery cable to the 12v system to reset the hybrid drive control module and the engine control module. Have the 12v battery tested and charged before reconnecting. Remove negative cable, positive cable. Instal positive cable instal negative cable. Only in that order.
