headlights not coming on - highbeam work/running lights work/replaced bulb and fuses

could be the switch on the dash-check the fuse first

under steering column there is plugin coming from your light switch it has short in it my plug was white

For my '95 metro (just failed 2010) it was the white wire going into the fuse box under the dash. Link to photo below. The wire itself is OK, but the plastic is burnt so badly that it no longer holds the blade portion of the connector in place. http://members.cox.net/~johnk731/metro_hl.jpg My fix is probably not what you should do. Disconnected the battery then I cleaned the contacts with sandpaper taped to a small needlenose, and a small precision screwdriver for the plug contact, since I couldn't figure out how to extract it from the plug. My headlights are back on, but I'll probably be dealing with it again a week or a year from now.
