Headlights and back up lights won't shut off, and won't respond to the dial on the dash to turn them off, but shut off when parking break is applied, how do I fix this? because it's killing my battery

(2007 Ford Freestyle)
the headlights and the reverse lights stay on all the time unless the parking break is applied, they won't shut off, even though the switch for the headlights is set to off and the vehicle itself is in park, it is draining the battery to a point I now need to get a new one because it is dead dead, and won't hold a charge anymore, and the parking break must be applied before the vehicle will start otherwise it won't start with the lamps active.
What seems to make the problem better or worse? parking break must be on to start the car, as parking break seems to disable the lights
How long have you had this problem? Just got the car yesterday

Since applying the PARK BRAKE turns the headlights off - this is obviously a problem within the DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS system - - which will require *hands-on* testing / evaluation by qualified personnel..

As for the reverse lights - that is another issue that will need to be addressed *hands-on* by the same qualified personnel..

Good luck!
