grinding noise in steering

have sometime noticed when car is cold especially, that when the steering wheel returns to the memory position, ther is a grinding noise also the aluminaton does not work in the dash also sometime the heat and fuel guages do not work. If I drive the car and then stop and turn key off, when I restart the car it will then work
