i have a 2002 toyota tacoma when it is cold it will start normally but when the weather is warmer outside it will not start ,normally it will crank like its out of gas or not getting spark after about 20 seconds of cranking it will slowly catch on and sputter to a normal idle

Code P0420 is a code for an inefficient Catalytic Converter. see this article I composed on that subject -http://repairpal.com/OBD-II-Code-P0420 As for your starting problem, the CAT code does not have much to do with that. It sounds like your car is running too lean, which explains why it starts better when cold, which is a richer mixture. Better have a skilled person scan your data stream so they can see what sensor(s) are not working correctly when your truck is warm. It may be a coolant temp sensor, Mass Air Flow, vacuum leak or several other things.
