Gas tank is empty but pump clicks off and gas blows out all over me

Hello, One of two things is happening. Either the fuel gauge is not reading properly, causing you to fill a full tank (not to insult your intelligence, it happens), or the check valve in the fuel tank is not allowing pressure release as fuel goes into the tank. When you fill the tank, air is pushed out as fuel is pushed in. If the air cannot escape, the fuel cannot enter. This results in your situation. See if your dealer has a recall for this issue. It is becoming quite common.
