What is your question?
I'm currently trying to pass emissions for my grand Prix 08, but I had an error code and the mechanic I was getting help from suggested that I needed to replace the fuel cap. After I replaced it he said I need to drive the car around. I drove the car for a good amount of time but the engine check light won't turn off, any suggestions?

Gas cap is only ONE possible cause - a leak anywhere within the EVAP (evaporative emissions) will have same results. Furthermore you did not mention if the check engine light was re-set after gas cap installation. Good luck!
I don't think the check engine light was reset, he just said the problem would most likely be my gas cap. ( I think he was right because I've been having a problem closing the gas cap. ) After I got it replaced he just told me to drive the car until the check engine light goes off. If I would need to re-set the engine light, how would I do that?
Disconnecting the battery negative cable for 5 minutes will do it - however that really isn’t the preferred procedure due to loss of radio station presets and idle speed re-learn will have to be completed again - which the control module will do during next trip. Ideally you need to find a friend with a code reader that can reset the light simply by hooking it up and pressing the correct button. Some-one you know has this device. Your ‘mechanic’ should have done this for you in the first place !!!
Thank you, I disconnected the battery for 5 minutes but the engine check light is still on so it may be a different problem, any suggestions?
Find a friend with a code reader and get the exact code numbers then post them here. Advance Auto or AutoZone will do this also - for free. I need the code numbers!
