Front door ajar indicator light

(2005 Ford Escape)
in Erie, PA on April 17, 2009
I bought a '05 Ford Escape a few months ago and the indicator light that signals the doors are opened has come on. Checked to make sure all were closed and still is on. What is causing this and what is the cost to correct this problem? Will it hurt if I just don't replace it? It looks like the door on the passenger side has been worked on before I purchased it.

There is a switch mounted on the door latch inside the door and it sticks, when it sticks it will not show the door being closed even when it is. The door trim panel will need to be removed and the switch replaced. It should be available through Ford dealer parts departments. Good luck.

Same problem with a 2003 Escape. Ford dealer said the sensor for the rear door/window was out of alignment and fixed it in half an hour.
