engine totally shut off while driving down the interstate. what to check first?

Remove engine cover .. Check for HOT blue spark from ignition coil wire to a metal ground... IF not familiar with testing ignition systems .. Seek hands-on help from qualified personnel .. Engine is not equipped with a timing belt .. Good luck!
