engine stalls/races when outdoor temperatures are below freezing

What is your question?

The engine starts ok when temperatures are in the 20s. However, it'll begin to either stall, barely run and rock back and forth, or want to race forward in gear even though my foot is off the accelerator. Any ideas appreciated.

Sounds like an air issue - like a sticking idle air control valve or an intake seal/gasket leak. Needs checked out of course to see what's happening.
