Engine overheat

What is your question?

I test drove a 2001 Volvo S 60 and the dealer said the overheat sensor was broken and the cars gage was just stuck on overheat; the engine seemed to be running hot. Is this a major problem?

I would be suspicious, did the salesman seem trustworthy? I am presuming he meant the temperature gauge sender unit was bad and needed to be replaced, in which case they should not have had the car on there lot yet for sale.
