What is your question?
First the key would not turn off the engine. Moving the key to the off position had no effect, the car kept running. It finally quit on its own. I reluctantly tried the key and it worked fine twice. The third time I tried the key all the lights and gauges came on as usual, but turn the key to the run position and nothing happens. The display says ESP is turned off, but that's it. Had the battery tested and charged. Still won't turn over, it does nothing. Could the ignition switch be bad?

Hello, I don't think there's any track record for "ignition switches" or key cylinder functionality, but it does sound like you have a concern with yours. I'd recommend seeking a professional evaluation at a shop near you. Use this link to find some shops near you that can help with your concern: www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
