Does not having a gas cap cause a gas leak! I have a gas leak.

Yes, if you're smelling fuel, or if it's spilling down the side of the vehicle in turns, or if the check engine light is on for an EVAP leak, it could be because your gas cap is missing. It would be a good idea to replace it, they're very cheap!
