When the speed control system of a vehicle fails, it is due to loss of operation of one of several key components that are required for the system to work properly. The stop lamp switch, accelerator pedal sensor, throttle valve actuator, wiring, and multiple other components are at play and could exhibit failures. The only way to know what is happening is to have a diagnostic tool connected while driving to determine what fails when disengagement occurs.
