If I disconnect the battery for an hour or more, the airbag light stays on and the radio (although it works)reads CAL. Last time the dealer reprogrammed the PCM module and reset the air bag light for $115. Has anyone else experiencd this problem? How can I avoid it in the future? Can I reset the light myself? Do I need a special scanner? What scanner would I need?

As far as I know disconnecting the battery for an extended period of time should not cause these issues to occur. Once the Air Bag Module and Radio "learn" their configuration they should not loose it no matter how long battery power is disconnected. That would apply to all modules on any late model GM vehicle. The functions necessary to perform the calibrations in question are performed using the factory GM scan tool. I do not know of any other scan tools which can perform those functions. Does anybody out there have anything to add?
my battery went flat, i replaced it, was disconnected for about 10 mins, and now airbag light is on, so yes, this happens, phoned dealer, he laughed and said it happens all the time! and quoted a fortune just to reset it, not happy, never buying a chevvy again, awful.
