Difficulty to replace water pump

(1999 Mercury Mystique)
My son lives in Portland OR and needs to replace the water pump. I'm going there next week and want to know if this pump is exceptionally difficult to remove and replace. Are there any tricks or suggestions?

Before attempting a repair I'm unfamiliar with, I get a subscription to an online repair manual (very inexpensive and worth every penny). Read up on the repair and figure out if this is something you have the ability and the tools to accomplish.
