What is your question?
We are having difficulty (requires muscle) putting the jeep into first gear or reverse when the car is stopped. If moving at all, the symptom is not noticable. I suspect the clutch. May be important to note that the clutch is not slipping at all. What could this be?

This sounds like a common complaint, with manual transmissions synchro rings help with shifting ease. reverse gear may not be synched because it is a safety thing to stop the operator from accidently shifting into reverse. when the gears are moving different speeds it is more difficult to mesh them manually. You may not have a low or reverse synchro ring. If you cant hit your gear--Shift into nuetral> allow car to move backwards>attempt shift again. Dont mash on the shifter and force it to go, you will be damaging the gears, if you chip a tooth your really screwed then.
bwehmer; I am having the same issues w/ my 1991 wrangler, same engine and transmission. Have you been able to figure out what the problem is and getting it fixed where and how. JTB
No luck. The hydrolics are not bad as the transmission shop suggested. We are just dealing with it.
Thanks Ginger420, I am familiar with the reverse gear meshing. The symptoms we are experiencing are more noticeable in first gear and when it happens in reverse gear I don't believe it is related to the normal meshing. I recently had an inspection done on the transmission by a repair shop and they are telling me that the hydrolics need to be replaced. Any suggestions on how to validate that?
