dashboard gauges don't work

Sounds like something in the networking or power supply to the instrumentation is malfunctioning after a few miles. Test equipment should be able to validate the inputs to the gauges to verify they are working, and then the gauges themselves should be tested. You will be able to determine a direction from there.
