GM has a recall of 2004 - 2007 Canyons sold in GA along with a dozen other states concerning a sticking brake light switch. If yours is stuck or corroded, it could cause the cruise control to think that the brakes are applied and won't work. Do a Google search for GMC Canyon cruise control and the recall information should be near the top.
