What is your question?
My car has been down for about a year or two due to a ticking noise in the engine turning into a clunking noise. It ran fine until I ended up getting tainted gas from a gas station in Kansas, then the ticking noise started not long after. I flushed out the fuel tank and replaced the fuel filter before trying to start it up again. There are no metal flakes or anything in the oil, and I’ve looked at the rods and they’re in good shape.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Running the engine in general
How long has your 2006 Pontiac G6 had this problem?
1-2 years

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Dang you, Kansas! If your Pontiac G6 started ticking after getting bad gas, it’s possible the fuel injectors are partially clogged or damaged, causing the ticking noise. Fuel injectors can make a ticking sound when they're working, especially if they’re dirty or malfunctioning. However, if that ticking turned into a clunking noise, it might indicate something more serious, like a problem with the valvetrain or timing components. Since you’ve checked the rods and oil and didn’t find any metal flakes, that’s a good sign, but I’d still recommend inspecting the injectors and possibly cleaning or replacing them. If the noise persists, it might be worth having a mechanic look deeper into the engine's internals.
