After being on the road awhile I can smell oil or antifreeze - when taken to mechanic they could not find a leak anywhere. Just notice when I opened the hood coolant in various small pools inside the engine compartment. I have had to add coolant a couple times in the past 1000 miles.
RepairPal Certified shops can diagnose and repair your 1998 Jeep Cherokee. They provide transparent pricing with a minimum 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on repairs and services.
you need to find another shop that can find the leak.there is an obvious leak the way you are describing, so you need to resolve it before any major damage results from it.

Thanks, this all stems from when I took the car to jiffy lube to replace the coolant, 400 miles later my car began to overheat. I took it right to the mechanic and they said the only problem (after pressure checking the system) was that my jeep was about 1.5 gal. short on coolant. Seems like jiffy lube overlooked something, but they won't honor it.
1.5 gallons is an awfull lot. you would have overheated immediately if that was the case. i still think you have a leak.
you wont have a case with the jl team. too much mileage since the service.
if they left out the coolant, you would have had an immediate issue.
keep having them check it. something caused this.

Great I will post the solution when I find out, possibly related (or not), my battery weakened and did not hold a charge this weekend, at the time that I found the coolant in my engine compartment. Any suggestions here, hoping it is not the alternator.

what was your guage showing on your dash for the charge rate?? Roy
first time it would turn over around 12...the next morning after I jumped it and drove for a few minutes, the gauge fell back down to below 9.
alt is failing. that will need to be replaced. Roy
