ck engine light comes on and trans wont shift up this problem comes and goes

I have an 07 acadia just random times it wouldn't shift and engine light would be on for atleast a day after. Just had transmission work done, they claimed it was transmission valve body. I just got my car back today so we shall see. It's hard to tell when sometimes the shifting problem may only happen once a month or every couple of months.
