Check Engine light on. Hesitation after stop but not always.

the trans display is saying there is a fault in the transmission. when a trans faults it goes into limp mode which can cause the stall and sluggishness. the check engine light may be on as a "mil" request saying check trans. either way the faults need to be read and evaluated by a tester and diagnostic technician. there are too many reasons to speculate what happened to your car without knowing the fault codes.
