What is your question?
I have a 5-speed which after idling for about a minute started shuddering and the check engine light started to flash. The car shuddered the entire drive home, about 2 miles, but didn't shut off. Is this serious and must it be taken truly to the dealer or a local, trustworthy auto-repair? I did tighten the gas cap without change. UPDATE: I took the car to local shop, they diagnosed and replaced a burnt-out electrical coil, one of 4 to the engine. mechanic stated that no other damage was done, the car ran great all day no issues. On the way home last night, the check engine light came on again. No apparent distress. Next stop, Toyota dealership.

Go to autozone get a free diagnostic come back here and let me know what the code is but it sounds like it might be the MAF sensor or something related to that.
You have a misfire in the engine, this is serious, because if you keep driving it you will damage the catalytic converter, if you haven't already. If you get the codes from a parts store post them here like mentioned in the previous answer, but do not, I repeat do not let them diagnose or suggest replacing anything, they are not technicians and they are merely guessing. Also, make sure the fuel level is not low, that will also cause misfires and the light to flash.
