Check engine light flashes when accelerator is pushed.

What is your question?

Occasionally the check engine light flashes when I first start the car. It flashes only when the accelerator is being pushed. If I stop the car and turn it off for several seconds, this problem stops and the light doesn't flash. If I continue to drive the car, the engine misses and runs rough. What is causing this problem, and will it be expensive to fix?
