check engine light would not come on during smog test. is there a lightbulb for that?

Most new vehicles no longer have replaceable light bulbs in the instrument panel cluster. The cluster must be remove from the vehicle and set to a special repair facility for bulb replacement. I would suggest that you have the check engine light system thoroughly diagnosed before sending the cluster out for repair. It may not be just a burned out bulb that is causing you problem.
