Car wont start

(1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass)
So I took my car on about a 500 mile trip over a few days. My car was running fine, but by the time I got home my check engine light was on. I tried to use it two nights after returning, and now it just wont start. All my lights work and everything, my car simply wont start. When I turn the key, I can barely hear the engine, then nothing. Any ideas?

possibly the battery is low. it will supply power to the little things but the starter is a big draw and requires a lot more power. get a small trickle charger and charge the battery and see if it starts. then go to a shop and have the battery and alternator checked.

Well, maybe its the alternator because I bought a brand new battery last year. Thanks a lot for the answer though. Anything helps as I basically know nothing about cars.
