car wants to stall and check engine light on

What is your question?

When i accelerate over 20 mph, the car feels like its going to stall. i have to take my foot off the accelerate and go very slow before the car steady's. check engine light came on too. I haven't driven it since. no noise that I can hear.

What makes this problem better or worse?

seems worst when i accelerate over 2000 rpm.
